Economic effects of the regional railways development

As a result of the administrative reforms implemented in January 1st, 1999, and in particular forming the self-government body on the Voivodeship level laid the foundations for transport organization and management on the regional level. Focusing on organizational and financial responsibility in the public passenger transport on the region level of the region became possible. Entrusting the self-government with such a responsibility, underlying the process of the transport regionalization, comes from the conviction that decision making as close as the possible to the place of the realization, most quickly will lead to the proper division of transit tasks and to the appropriate communication shape, corresponding with the actual needs of the local community and being the crucial factor of creating the region competitiveness. Simultaneously such a solution causes the streamlining of costs of passenger transports in the region. 4 pages

The idea of trans-European network started at the beginning of the 1990s. High-speed rail network and the combined transport network in the most countries were the subject of studies conducted throughout Europe on the basis of then available data. They became the basis for the network covering the entire continent. However regarding the road infrastructure and conventional rail infrastructure experts work relied largely on compiling existing national plans and complementing these plans with missing links [7]. Modern trams in Poland in 2015

Operators of urban transport in several cities in Poland, where tram networks are exploited, gained new trams in the second half of 2015. These cities are: Cracow, Wroclaw, Warsaw, Bydgoszcz, Toruń, Łódź and Olsztyn. With the exception of Olsztyn (its trams were manufactured by Solaris), the tram rolling stock used in most cities have been produced by Pesa Bydgoszcz. It should be added that the tram vehicles made by Pesa, are used in cities with the exception of Olsztyn, Poznan, Gorzow Wielkopolski and Grudziadz. For two last ones no new trams in the last 5–10 years have been purchased. 6 pages

Analysis of train collisions with animals on railway lines managed by Polish Railway Lines

Train collisions with wild animals is a multidimensional issue. In Poland this topic has only recently become a subject of research and analysis. It is usually said that there are approximately a few hundred collisions per year in Poland, but this number is underestimated. At the beginning of 2012 some research begun related to railway vehicle collisions with animals. The research was carried out at source, i.e. among rail operators, both as passenger and cargo ones. One passenger operator provides us with data that were the basis for more detailed analysis. It turned out that collisions are common, they often result in damages and delays which mean high costs for railway operators. Prevention of accidents is therefore in the common interest of natural scientists and railway managers. To be effective, it must be based on the solid knowledge of animal behaviour and habits and location of „black spots”. 5 pages.
